BIG NEWS REGARDING
THE LAFAYETTE THEATRE

Nelson Page is proud to announce that the Lafayette Theatre’s long-overdue ceiling cleaning – which includes scraping, refinishing, and repainting as well as replacement of plasterwork that has been damaged over the years – will be taking place from August through October. Go to our Photo Gallery to see some pictures of the scaffold being installed.

We are thrilled that the Benmosche family is making the long-term future of the Lafayette Theatre a reality by their commitment of $250,000 to this project. As the landlords of the building, the Benmosche’s have long been dedicated to keeping the Lafayette Theatre and downtown Suffern a vital place to visit.

The Lafayette Theatre will be closed from August 16 through October 21 for this work to take place. Please keep your eye on our website and your e-mail for details on upcoming films and live events at the Lafayette. We’re happy that our world-famous Horror-Thon will return on the weekend of November 5 – 7; the Big Screen Classics Saturday matinee series returns on October 23; and Sunday morning movies from our friends at the Rivertown Film Society will be back starting on October 24.

We hope to install a live webcam so that you can log on and see the work in progress – watch your e-mail for details on how to view it once it’s hooked up and ready.

Thanks, and see you at the movies!

PROGRAMMING NOTE

Due to the above-mentioned work being done at the Lafayette Theatre, the "Lewis Black in Conversation" event on October 11 has been moved to Rockland Community College. Please go to ArtsRock.org for more information and to purchase tickets.

Special Event at the Lafayette Theatre
An Evening with
Bernie Williams on Guitar
Saturday, October 23 at 8pm

bernie williamstransparentFrom hitting a grand slam to strumming his guitar, Bernie Williams is an all around winner. His second album, Moving Forward, features guest appearances by Bruce Springsteen, Jon Secada, Dave Koz, The Harlem Boys & Girls Alumni Choir, Famed Yankee announcer Bob Sheppard and an All-Star cast of renowned studio musicians. Throughout Williams’ years with The Yankees, his passion for music never waned, and the sound of a guitar would often be heard emanating from the clubhouse or during team flights. Whether acoustic or electric, a guitar was a constant presence in the star’s locker or equipment bag, and it was no surprise in 2003 when he demonstrated how serious his musical pursuit was with the release of his first album, The Journey Within. The record featured fusions of jazz, rock and the tropical rhythms of Williams’ heritage (as well as guest appearances by fellow musicians such as Ruben Blades and Gilberto Santa Rosa) and was met with both strong critical praise and instant chart success – reaching #3 on Billboard’s “Contemporary Jazz Chart.”

On Saturday, October 23 at 8pm, the Lafayette and ArtsRock are proud to present Bernie Williams on Guitar in Concert. Visit ArtsRock.org for complete information and to purchase tickets for this very special event.
